How to know if I need an emergency plumber?

At CBrookes Plumbing & Heating we understand how awful it is when something goes wrong with the plumbing in your home. It’s also not always easy to identify what’s wrong, or obvious who to call. You can look at some issues by yourself if you feel confident, but other times you’ll need to call a plumber, especially in the case of an emergency.

What is classed as a plumbing emergency?

A plumbing issue is usually considered an emergency when it’s something that needs immediate attention. This includes things like a major plumbing leak, a burst pipe or a boiler breakdown. There are lots of other plumbing and heating issues that may arise and need a plumber’s help but aren’t classed as an emergency. These include leaky taps, radiators that are slow to heat and a shower losing some water pressure.

Can I deal with the plumbing issue myself?

On certain occasions, it is possible to deal with plumbing issues without calling your local plumber. There are instances where you can manage the issue yourself, or at least deal with it until you can get hold of a professional plumber. In winter, for example, it’s quite common for the pipes in your plumbing network to freeze over, such as the condensation pipe connected to your boiler. Although this is an emergency in the sense that it will result in your home having no heat or hot water, this issue can actually be resolved simply by thawing the frozen pipe with warm water or a hot, wet towel.

However, there are of course other situations where you will be risking your safety, as well as leaving the door open to more potential damage being caused, which could end up costing you more than it was to begin with.

For example, if your pilot light of your boiler has switched off this could signify a gas build-up and it would be unsafe to not get it checked by a Gas Registered heating engineer such as a plumber from CBrookes Plumbing & Heating. Similarly, if you have a burst pipe it will need resolving promptly and properly to avoid causing even more damage in your home.
