Plumbing leaks in your home can be a pain to have to deal with, no matter how big or small. What might seem small now, can lead to a potentially huge problem in the future, which is why doing anything you can do to avoid a plumbing leak is essential. CBrookes Plumbing & Heating are here to help you avoid plumbing leaks in your home, in our latest blog post!
Check your water pressure
Whilst the pressure regulator can be adjusted to anywhere between 25-75 PSI, the average is usually between 40-50 PSI. If the PSI reading shown on your regulator is above 75, there's a chance that it might trigger a leak. Our recommendation is to check your water pressure often, and if you notice anything unusual, contact our local plumbers on 07716 101545.
Replace your washing machine hose
More often than not, kitchen leaks are as a result of a faulty water supply hose that's connected to your washing machine. On average the cold and hot water supply hoses are expected to last around 5 years, so don't wait for this to burst. Replace it when you can and avoid a disastrous plumbing leak in your kitchen that will be expensive to repair.
Use a water softener
If you live in an area with hard water that has a naturally high mineral content, your pipes will directly be exposed to corrosion. In order to prevent your pipes from corrosion, we'd recommend installing a water softener throughout your home to help extend the life of your water pipes - as well as your home's central heating system.
Prevent your pipes from freezing
This is a huge problem during the winter months, but frozen pipes can be disastrous and are a very common cause of plumbing leaks. As the temperature rises, the frozen pipes will begin to thaw. And while it may sound like a good thing that you have running water again, it could create plumbing nightmares. Our recommendation to avoid this is to ensure that all of your exposed pipes are well insulated with pipe lagging that you can purchase from your local DIY store.
